My Biggest Mistakes With My Performance & Leadership Skills
In this episode, I break down the personal, physical, professional, and leadership shifts I’ve had to make—and am still making—to operate at my highest level without burning out or losing myself in the process.
We talk about the trap of chasing milestones—pro rugby, the big paydays, even fatherhood—and realising none of it would "complete" me. I dive into how my identity was wired for attack mode—where everything felt like a war I needed to win—and how that cost me clarity and peace.
Physically, I open up about the disconnect between how I saw myself and what my body was actually capable of. Training harder wasn’t the answer—training with intent was. I had to stop fuelling the past version of me and start showing up for the one I am now.
Professionally, I learned the hard way that trying to move too fast only led to setbacks. You’ve got to earn your right to progress. What got me here won’t get me to that next level—and that truth hits different when you’re climbing your own mountain.
And in leadership? It was letting go of taking everything personally, shaking off the need to be the hero in every situation, and finally realising that being in the room doesn't always mean being in the middle of everything.
This one’s for anyone who’s felt stuck between the version of themselves they’ve outgrown and the version they’re becoming.
